Examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests. Advises patients about continuing care.

  • Provides direct care to patients through comprehensive history taking and physical examinations.
  • Evaluates and treats patients based on history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures as approved by the Clinical Division Chief.
  • Initiates referrals to other health care providers and consults with attending or collaborating physicians.
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided.
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.
  • Participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Participates in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Potential to precept students enrolled as advanced practice provider students.
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program or an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or APRN.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • DHEC and DEA license.
  • Experience as a Physician Assistant or APRN with AGACNP/ACNP certification.
  • Experience managing acutely ill or injured patients.
