About The Position

MUSC Community Physicians is seeking a dedicated NP/PA -- Psychiatric Hospitalist to provide high-quality, compassionate care to patients at the Leatherman Behavioral Health Pavilion. The NP/PA will work collaboratively with psychiatrists, medical staff, and interdisciplinary teams to manage acute and chronic medical conditions in psychiatric patients, ensuring holistic and integrated care. The NP/PA will also work as a Hospitalist within the Pee Dee Division in a medical center on a rotational basis.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant.
  • Must have at least 6 months of hospital medicine experience.
  • Currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of South Carolina as a Physician Assistant or as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or a Family Nurse Practitioner with the SC Board of Nursing.
  • Requires certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Requires certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Requires certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1 year as a Physician Assistant or FNP/AGACNP in Hospital medicine and Psychiatric care or ICU experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care to patients through comprehensive history taking and physical examinations.
  • Manages acute and chronic medical illnesses in medical/surgical and psychiatric patients.
  • Collaborates with psychiatrists to develop and implement treatment plans that address medical and psychiatric needs.
  • Evaluates and treats based on history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results.
  • Initiates referrals to other health care providers and consults with the attending physician or collaborating physician.
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided.
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; facilitates the learning of other new team members.
