The GI medical oncology team at The James is dedicated to advancing the care, treatment, and research of patients with gastrointestinal-related cancers. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will play a crucial role in this team by providing primary coverage for the infusion and acute visit clinic. This position involves evaluating and managing a wide range of oncology-focused urgent and non-urgent issues, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive care tailored to their specific needs. The APP will perform focused examinations for both acute and complex chronically ill patients, managing their initial evaluations and coordinating diagnostic testing through appropriate orders and care implementation. In addition to direct patient care, the APP will facilitate hospital admissions as necessary and communicate any changes in a patient's health status or urgent issues to the primary attending physician and the healthcare team promptly. Collaboration is key in this role, as the APP will work closely with an interdisciplinary health team to ensure that patients receive safe, effective, and timely treatment throughout their care journey. The scope of this position includes providing healthcare services to adult patients under the supervision of a licensed physician member of the medical staff at James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. The APP will be responsible for delivering care during both acute and chronic phases of illness, offering education and counseling to patients and their families, promoting health and prevention strategies, and making referrals to other healthcare providers and community resources when appropriate.
