The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a licensed medical provider (NP/PA) who functions as part of a multidimensional physician-led health care team. The APP aids in the management, under the supervision of an attending neurosurgeon/physician, of patients with neurosurgical conditions. This includes primarily outpatient and some inpatient care. A major role of the APP is to be the patient advocate in the medical system. Additionally, the APP extends the services of his/her attending surgeon/physician by: acting as a liaison for their supervising physician, obtaining histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting imaging, laboratory and other diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, brace and therapies, performing and assisting in common neurosurgical office procedures.
