About The Position

In accordance with professional standards of care and adhering to the corporate philosophy of OSF Medical Group (OSFMG), the Advanced Practice Nurse/Physician Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality patient care and a truly personalized, patient-centric experience aligned with each patient’s preferences, goals, and needs. This position primarily involves inpatient neurosurgery care in a hospital-based setting, including comprehensive neurological assessments, daily rounding, histories and physicals, new consults, admissions, and discharges. The role includes developing and implementing individualized treatment plans in collaboration with attending neurosurgeons, preparing patients for surgery, managing postoperative care, and supporting smooth care transitions across the continuum. Responsibilities also include ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and documenting all care provided. The Advanced Practice Nurse/Physician Assistant will provide patient and family education to enhance understanding of diagnoses, treatment options, and long-term management plans, and will work closely with nursing, rehabilitation, and other specialty services to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care. The position involves performing procedures alongside residents and offers exposure to a broad range of acute and complex neurological cases in a collaborative work environment with neurosurgeons, residents, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary teams. The schedule consists of two 12-hour shifts per week (5:45 AM – 6:15 PM), with rotating weekends and holidays as part of the schedule.

Requirements

  • Licensed to provide either advanced practice nursing services in the State of Illinois or physician assistant services as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
  • Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and State of Illinois for prescribing of narcotics.
  • BLS/ACLS Certified.
  • Neurosurgery experience preferred; new graduates will be considered.
  • Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hospital environment while maintaining patient-centered focus.
