About The Position

The Department of Internal Medicine - General Internal Medicine is seeking a skilled Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Hospital Medicine team. This role involves providing comprehensive inpatient care in a collaborative academic environment alongside experienced physicians.

Requirements

  • Completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or a graduate level nurse practitioner program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
  • Licensed Physician Assistant by the Texas Physician Assistant Board/Texas Medical Board (TPAB/TMB) or Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON) and Licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in a nurse practitioner clinical area of specialization by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON).
  • BLS/ACLS Certification.

  • Experience with QI initiatives and bedside procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough history and physical exams.
  • Order and interpret labs, imaging, and procedures.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans with attending physicians.
  • Manage hospitalized patients with complex conditions.
  • Perform procedures within scope (e.g., central lines, LPs, paracentesis).
  • Document care and facilitate admissions/discharges.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Coordinate care with specialists and allied health professionals.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families.
  • Engage in quality improvement and continuing education.
  • Participate in training on goals-of-care conversations and procedures.
