Advanced Practice Provider I, Adult CVTS Congenital Heart Disease Clinic
About The Position
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team within the UT Southwestern division at Children's Health in Dallas/Plano to provide comprehensive care within our accredited adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) program and participate in care of congenital adult heart patients through the cardiothoracic surgical program. Role responsibilities include management of pre/post-operative cardiothoracic patients (congenital adult), in addition to working with young adults with CHD, aiding in meeting their medical, educational, and psychosocial needs with the goal of preparation for an eventual uninterrupted transition to an adult congenital heart disease program. The APP will also work with the ACHD consult team to provide consults to medical and surgical ACHD patients in the inpatient setting. This position will demonstrate a high degree of critical thinking and clinical expertise in working with adult congenital heart patients in the outpatient setting. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, consultation, and health promotion and care coordination for patients and families, with close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. New Grad Rate $130,000
Requirements
- Master's degree in nursing or Higher degree and Documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program and Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. OR Master's degree graduate of a Master's or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Advanced Practice RN (AGACNP-BC or ACNP-AG) by Texas State Board of Nursing upon hire and authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire. OR National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and certified licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board (PA-C) upon hire. AND
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified by the American Heart Association or Red Cross based on the UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers upon hire.
Nice To Haves
- Prior Advanced Practice Provider experience in adult cardiology or cardiothoracic surgery, adult general medicine hospitalist or internal medicine or pediatric congenital heart defects in a consult role needed.
Responsibilities
- Diagnoses and treats critically ill patients, develops and manages treatment plans, and performs advanced procedures.
- Develops and implements treatment plans for patients.
- Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
- Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
- Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate based on specialty and training.
- Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
- Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
- Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
