About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Hospitalist at Bryan Heart is responsible for providing cardiovascular care services as delegated by physicians. This includes assessing and managing patients in the hospital while adhering to established standards and practices. The role requires a commitment to the mission, vision, and core values of the organization, ensuring high-quality patient care and collaboration with healthcare teams.

Requirements

  • Master of Science degree in Nursing with current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska required.
  • Certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner or other related specialty area required.
  • OR Master of Science in Physician Assistant & certification through AAPA and current State of Nebraska Physician Assistant license required.
  • Certification with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescriptive authority is required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' clinical practice experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates core values.
  • Performs and documents medical history and physical examinations on cardiovascular patients; establishes presumptive diagnosis, which are to be countersigned by the responsible physician; reviews patient records.
  • Makes complete chart entries on patient transactions, writes orders and records progress notes, which will be reviewed and countersigned by the responsible physician within 24 hours.
  • Available for consultative visits with the patient and their family; serves as a resource person to the staff and physician; recommends changes in plan of care to facilitate optimum patient outcomes.
  • Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed; alerts physician to test results requiring their attention.
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures; keeps physician informed of changes requiring intervention.
  • Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
  • Triages patient and provider telephone calls and provides consultations; may request consultation at the direction of the sponsoring physician.
  • Prepares and completes patient discharge summaries of patient hospital care on the day of discharge or within 14 days of discharge.
  • Participates in management of ICU, medical and surgical emergencies, utilizing ACLS protocol.
  • Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergencies; teaches/counsels individuals regarding follow-up care and activities as needed.
  • Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
  • Monitors exercise and pharmacologic stress testing (Day APPs only).
  • Complies with OSHA clinical safety practices as well as administrative and facility regulations.
  • Remains current in advances in cardiovascular care and translates this knowledge into clinical practice.
  • Participates in continuing education and maintains professional certifications and affiliation.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
  • Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
