The SCMG Advanced Practice Provider in Gastroenterology will work under the general supervision of the Clinical Division Director and direct supervision of a designated physician, providing medical and appropriate outpatient care to patients. This includes evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and documentation of each care encounter. The APP will assist GI MDs by providing inpatient consults and rounding on department patients, coordinating medical, ancillary, nursing, and other services. The work schedule requires a minimum of 40 hours per week with at least 36 hours of patient contact time, and participation in a shared clinic call rotation is expected.

  • Obtain pertinent medical history and appropriate physical evaluations.
  • Order and interpret pertinent lab and/or x-ray studies.
  • Perform and document preprocedural and preadmission histories and physicals as well as discharge summaries.
  • Facilitate referrals to community health facilities, agencies, and resources.
  • Recognize medical emergencies and initiate evaluative and treatment procedures.
  • Complete clinical records in a timely manner.
  • Prescribe medications within the scope of practice and Oregon law.
  • Document all patient care within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Participate in St Charles physicians meetings and assist in policy and clinical practice guidelines formation.
  • Keep medical knowledge and skills current through regular CME activity.
  • Successful completion of an approved Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner course of study.
  • Unrestricted Physician Assistant and/or Nurse Practitioner licensure in the state of Oregon.
  • NCCPA certification for Physician Assistants or AANC, NCC or AANP, AMCB certification for Nurse Practitioners.
  • Unrestricted Federal DEA number registered in Oregon.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Experience using EMR software.
  • Prior experience with trauma and acute care surgery and/or critical care.
  • Epic EMR software experience.
