About The Position

The Penn State Health Hershey Medical Center Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship is an 18-month post-graduate training program designed to prepare highly qualified nurse practitioners and NCCPA-certified physician assistants to become skilled, compassionate, and efficient emergency medicine providers. Through a blend of didactic education and hands-on patient care, fellows will develop advanced clinical skills and expertise in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. The fellowship includes weekly 4-6-hour residency conferences, as well as sessions specifically tailored for fellows. Fellows will complete certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and ATLS. Fellows gain experience across all levels of emergency medicine (EM) acuity, including pediatric EM and the EM observational care unit. Fellows rotate through various specialties, such as Neurology, Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Critical Care, and Radiology, to broaden their clinical knowledge and foster interprofessional communication. Unique to Penn State Health, the fellowship offers hands-on experience in Event Medicine, providing medical support at Penn State football games and other events. Additionally, fellows participate in an introduction to Wilderness Medicine, featuring an overnight backpacking trip along the Appalachian Trail. This distinguished fellowship fosters a seamless transition to practice by offering a multidisciplinary approach, collaboration with seasoned healthcare providers, and exposure to a diverse patient population. Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing and currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner by State or employment.
  • Graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant Program or baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the State of employment.
  • National Certification in State of employment or in another State with reciprocity and licensure to practice in the State of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
