The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is seeking a highly motivated Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our General Cardiology subsection. This position focuses exclusively on outpatient care, working closely with cardiology faculty and multidisciplinary care teams to provide comprehensive, patient-centered cardiovascular care.

  • Conduct outpatient clinic visits, including new patient evaluations, follow-up visits, and chronic disease management.
  • Perform thorough cardiovascular assessments, including history, physical examination, and interpretation of ECGs and common non-invasive tests.
  • Manage a variety of general cardiology conditions including hypertension, hyperlipidemia, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, and heart failure in the ambulatory setting.
  • Educate patients and families on cardiovascular disease prevention, lifestyle modifications, medication adherence, and follow-up plans.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the care team to optimize treatment plans and care coordination.
  • Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently in the electronic health record (Epic).
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and educational activities as appropriate.
  • Completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Licensed Physician Assistant by the Texas Physician Assistant Board/Texas Medical Board (TPAB/TMB)
  • Completion of a graduate level (or higher) nurse practitioner program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
  • Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON)
  • Licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in a nurse practitioner clinical area of specialization by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON)
