About The Position

Responsible for providing care to cardiothoracic surgery patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting, including pre-operative consultations, first-assisting in the operating room and post-operative management under physician supervision and within established standards and practices.

Requirements

  • Master of Science degree in Nursing with current Advance Practice Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska required.
  • Certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner or other related specialty area required.
  • Certification with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescriptive authority required.
  • OR
  • Master of Science in Physician Assistant required.
  • Current Physician Assistant licensure from the State of Nebraska required.
  • Certification through AAPA required.
  • Certification with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescriptive authority required.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of one (1) year advanced practice experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
  • Performs all duties within the scope of practice for the perioperative patient including first-assisting in surgery, Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH), Endoscopic Radial Artery Harvesting (ERAH), chest closure, inpatient management (patient consults, ICU/progressive care/general care rounds; ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic testing, writing orders, facilitating patient discharges) and outpatient management (conducting outpatient clinic visits and follow-up as directed by physician) both locally and in outstate clinic locations.
  • Coordinates ongoing overall patient care with physician staff, nursing staff and other ancillary care providers to ensure treatment plans are implemented.
  • Assists with surgical emergencies.
  • Shares on-call responsibilities equally with Cardiothoracic APP team.
  • Assists or performs bedside procedures within the scope of practice agreement under the direction of physician.
  • Administers medications and injections in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines.
  • Plans and participates in educational programs for patients, families, medical students and hospital staff as needed. Provides workshops, seminars and presentations to other professionals.
  • Appropriately documents patient care in the electronic medical record.
  • Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education.
  • Triages patient telephone calls as needed, providing consultation.
  • Remains current in advanced cardiothoracic care and, where relevant, translates these findings into clinical practice.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
  • Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
