About The Position

Responsible for providing medical services to assigned patients according to the Scope of Practice for Nurse Practitioners as identified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and or patient services under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician as a Physician Assistant. Works as part of the care team to provide patient services specific to a particular medical discipline. Representative duties are as follows: provides diagnostic, therapeutic and preventative health care services under the direct supervision of a physician. Practices autonomously and in collaboration with other health care professionals to diagnose, treat and manage health problems.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited Physician's Assistant program required.
Current licensure in the State of Nebraska as a Physician Assistant required.
Certification with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescriptive authority required.
Completion of the Merrick Medical Center credentialing and re-credentialing process required for employment.
OR
Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required.
Master of Science degree in Nursing with current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska required.
Certification with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescriptive authority required.
Completion of the Merrick Medical Center credentialing and re-credentialing process required for employment.
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) within six (6) months of hire required.

Nice To Haves

Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Physician's Assistant, in a family practice clinic, preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner, as a family practice provider preferred.

Responsibilities

Conducts patient assessments including obtaining a relevant health and medical history; performs a physical examination based on age and history; performs or orders preventive and diagnostic procedures based on the patient's age and history and identifies health and medical risk factors.
Diagnoses patients by synthesizing and analyzing the collected data; formulates a differential diagnosis based on the history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results.
Provides patient care in clinic, hospital and emergency department
Identifies and implements a patient treatment plan which may include ordering additional diagnostic tests; selects appropriate pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions; develops a patient education plan; makes appropriate treatment referrals
Implements patient care plans based on scientific principles, theoretical knowledge, and clinical expertise; accurately conducts and interprets diagnostic tests; accurately prescribes pharmacologic agents and nonpharmacologic therapies.
Determines the effectiveness of patient treatment plans; documents patient care outcomes; reassesses and modifies treatment plans as necessary to achieve health and medical goals.
Provides relevant patient education regarding mental and physical health, including but not limited to: diet, disease, prevention, treatment and normal development.
Makes referrals to other health professionals and community agencies as needed. Refers and converses with appropriate consultants in regards to patient management and patient transfers when appropriate.
Participates as a team member in the provision of health and medical care; interacts and collaborates with professional colleagues to provide comprehensive care.
Accurately and timely documents patient findings, treatment plans and evaluations; documents interventions appropriately to ensure coding compliance for reimbursement purposes in accordance with Medical Staff bylaws/rules and regulations.
Collaborates with other departments to ensure delivery of quality patient care services. Complies with and is knowledgeable of all federal/state legal/regulatory requirements regarding their practice, including HIPAA privacy compliance as well as MMC's own compliance/QA/Risk directives and programs, to participate whenever time allows.
Performs tasks, not prohibited by law, in which the provider has been trained, is proficient to perform, and is within their scope of practice per MMC policy/procedure.
Functions in the emergency room according to MMC policy/procedure and scope of practice.
Assists in the training of rotating medical students.
Active in the quality improvement activities of MMC medical clinics.
Participates in meetings, committees and lean projects as assigned.
Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
Performs service excellence initiatives such as: AIDET, Key Words, Managing Up, 10/5 Rule and Service Recovery when applicable
Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
