About The Position

The Department of Neurology is searching for an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) Manager to lead a group of Neurology APPs. The manager will oversee 11 APPs in the Neurology department. This department is projected to see significant growth this fiscal year with several new programmatic initiatives ongoing. The APP Manager will play a key role in ensuring top of license practice, optimization of the APPs clinical practice and helping to improve access for these patient populations.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctorate in Nursing (Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and Certified Nurse Midwife) or Master’s or Doctorate in Science (Physician Assistant or Radiologist Assistant).
  • 5 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, Certified Nurse Midwife, Radiologist Assistant or Physician Assistant.
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Licensed to practice as a Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist or Certified Nurse Midwife in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant or Radiologist Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification.
  • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) required for selected clinical practice settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care through in-person visits including assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management of neurological conditions.
  • Cultivate a patient centric environment and serve as the focal professional for continuity of care within scope of practice standards.
  • Provide assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Collaborate with attending supervising/collaborating physicians in accordance with state law and hospital regulations.
  • Obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, review/orders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and radiologic results, formulate and manage patient treatment plans.
  • Educate patients/families on care and recommended or available resources.
  • Provide psychosocial support to patients and their family members in a caring, ethical, and professional manner.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation within the accordance of hospital and regulatory requirements.
  • Engage in daily continuous quality improvement by identifying and implementing processes for improvement.
  • Lead efforts in recruiting, retaining, deploying, managing performance, and supporting the professional development of APPs.
  • Develop and implement training programs and onboarding for new APPs.
