Overview Hours: APP patient coverage may require, regularly scheduled day, scheduled nights, weekends, holiday and on-call obligations Position Summary: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides care to complex acute, critical and chronically ill patients and manages the plan of care. The APP is experienced and works autonomously, as well as in collaboration with other health care professionals, to diagnose and manage patients' acute and chronic health care needs. APP patient coverage may require regularly scheduled days, weekends, holidays and on-call obligations. The Newborn and Infant Critical Care Unit (NICCU) is a sophisticated 58-bed unit that provides a complete range of medical and surgical services for neonates and infants with the most complex conditions. Our unit serves as a regional referral center for the western United States as well as an international referral center. Our specialized programs include Fetal & Neonatal Surgery, Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Whole-Body Therapeutic Hypothermia, Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, complex surgical specialties, highly specialized ventilatory support & home ventilation program, Newborn Follow-Up, and more.

Requirements

  • NICU clinical experience is preferred.
  • For NNP: Graduate of a NLN accredited graduate program and NCC certification
  • For PA: Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited graduate program and NCCPA certification
  • Nurse Practitioner or Physician Associate license in state of California
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) furnishing license
  • American Heart Association BLS & PALS
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the complex acute, critical and chronically ill patient for urgent and emergent conditions. Uses relevant data to evaluate for physiologic instability. Utilizes the data to formulate a plan of care.
  • Performs therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems.
  • Analyzes the indications, contraindications, risk of complications and cost-benefits of therapeutic interventions.
  • Manages the plan of care through evaluation, modification and documentation according to the patient's response to therapy. Manages changes in condition with a focus on optimizing the patient outcomes.
  • Facilitates the patient's transitions between and within health care settings.
  • Serves as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff, and provider team. Acts as a consultant to multidisciplinary health care team members.
  • Participates in scholarly activities including research and education. Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings. Participates in the professional development of others. Acts as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of nurses, advanced practice providers, students, and other health care providers.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practice to enhance safety. Shares errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms. Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice.
