Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in nursing or graduate of a Master's degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Licensure as Adult Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP-BC or ACNP-AG) by Texas State Board of Nursing or certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Advanced Practice Provider experience in adult cardiology or cardiothoracic surgery.
  • Experience in adult general medicine hospitalist or internal medicine.
  • Experience with pediatric congenital heart defects in a consult role.

Responsibilities

  • Management of pre/post-operative cardiothoracic patients (congenital adult).
  • Working with young adults with CHD, aiding in meeting their medical, educational, and psychosocial needs.
  • Preparation for an eventual uninterrupted transition to an adult congenital heart disease program.
  • Providing consults to medical and surgical ACHD patients in the inpatient setting.
  • Assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, consultation, and health promotion and care coordination for patients and families.
  • Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Conducting and documenting comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations.
  • Synthesizing data and utilizing evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in technical/procedural skills.
  • Providing management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Facilitating/participating in quality related initiatives.
  • Collaborating in research projects and protocols.
