About The Position

The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) Acute Care is a skilled individual, qualified by academic and clinical education who provides assistance in the provision of specialty and acute medical care for children with a wide variety of acute, complex acute, critical and chronic illness in the inpatient setting. The APP Acute Care – PICU and IMC will function independently, under the supervision an attending physician in accordance with a standard care arrangement and specialty board certification. Operates in accordance with the Texas Board of Nursing and/or Texas Medical Board. Maintains a Standard Care Arrangement with a collaborating physician(s). The APP Acute Care demonstrates excellent communication and customer service skills, as well as proven excellence in clinical care. The acute care unit(s) operate within the framework of Driscoll Children's Hospital Mission Statement and Core Values.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Post Master’s Degree, Required.
  • Graduation from a Nurse Practitioners Program with practice authority in the State of Texas, Required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of pediatric acute care experience, required.
  • BLS, PALS and ACLS required.
  • Advanced Practice Certification, Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care (CPNP-AC), required.
  • Active and unencumbered nurse practitioner and registered nurse license in the State of Texas, required.
  • Advanced specialty courses and ongoing education requirements as required by DCH.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, required.
  • DCH Credentialing obtained within time frame required and continuously maintained ongoing.
  • Must obtain DCH credentialing as an active member of medical staff and appropriate medical privileges, required.
  • Completion of an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) approved program (prior to January 2001 - Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs), required.
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), Physician Assistant, Certified (PA-C), required.
  • Active and unencumbered license in the State of Texas, required
  • Master’s or Post Master’s Degree, Required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of EMR systems, preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish), preferred.
