Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED - Required.
  • 5 years pharmacy technician experience or completion of a formalized technician training program - Required.
  • Licensed Pharmacy Tech (LPT) Current license by AZ State Board of Pharmacy - Required.
  • Completion of a formalized Technician Training Program - Preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree - Preferred.
  • 3 years of pharmacy technician experience (retail, hospital, infusion clinics, medication reconciliation or wholesaler experience) - Preferred.
  • Advanced skills - proficient in sterile intravenous compounding and hazardous compounding or buyer or automation technician - Preferred.
  • Current Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) issued by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR by the certification of pharmacy technicians (ExCPT) - Preferred.
  • Pharmacy Technician Diploma - Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Practice within all State Board of Pharmacy, DEA, and FDA rules and regulations.
  • Preparation of prescription orders including sterile and non-sterile preparation.
  • Unit dose preparation of oral solids, ensuring pre-packaging records are complete.
  • Knowledge and functionality of automated dispensing machines (ADM) such as Lynx and Pyxis.
  • Preparation of ADM cart fills and stocking/restocking.
  • Run reports from ADMs and/or enter required documentation within ADMs.
  • Retrieve narcotics and follow all requirements for complete controlled substance distribution.
  • Assist inventory specialist in maintaining drug inventory levels.
  • Monitor expiration dates and unit inspections.
  • Maintain a completely clear and clean workspace at all times.
  • Compounds sterile or non-sterile pharmaceuticals in the IV Room.
  • Performs purchasing and inventory control functions as an Inventory Specialist Tech.
  • Responsible for oversight of hospital automation equipment as an Automation Tech.
  • Oversees daily activities of medication use process in an Ambulatory Infusion Clinic.
  • Performs pharmacy technician duties for retail pharmacy under pharmacist supervision.
  • Responsible for obtaining, verifying, and documenting medication history as a Medication Reconciliation Technician.
