About The Position

National University’s School of Health Professions, in collaboration with the School of Education, invites applications for a uniquely rewarding Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) position within a long-term, grant-funded initiative serving elementary school communities across San Diego. This role is ideal for an FNP who values meaningful patient interaction, interdisciplinary teamwork, and community-centered care. You will join a highly collaborative, close-knit group of healthcare professionals who are passionate about equitable access, preventive care, and whole-family wellbeing. Position Highlights Part-time, flexible scheduling: Work two-three days per week, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Family-centered clinical practice: Provide care not only to elementary school students, but also to their parents and siblings. a rare opportunity to support holistic family health in a school-based setting. Low daily patient volume: Typically 5–8 patients per day (with the higher end occurring infrequently), allowing for 45-minute visits and the ability to deliver thorough, relationship-based care. Integrated health education: When clinic volume is lower, engage with students in the classroom, teaching preventive care, mental health awareness, and the relationship between physical and emotional wellbeing. Community impact: Participate in one Saturday Community Health Fair per month on a rotating basis, as well as occasional after-school community events. Weekly hours flex accordingly—for example, working two 4-hour days during the same week to accommodate Saturday or after-school coverage. Hybrid work potential: On-site coverage from 8:00–8:45 a.m. start time through 3:00 p.m. , with remaining hours available to be completed remotely. Grant-funded stability: Funding is secured through 2029, offering long-term consistency within a mission-driven program. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an earned Master of Science in nursing degree.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Certification and Licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current California Furnishing number, NPI and current DEA registration number.
  • Hold and maintain current national and state board certification as a nurse practitioner from approved organization (American Nurses Credentialing Center, American Academy of Nurse Practitioner, National Certification Corporation for Obstetrics, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialty).
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and PALS.
  • Recent experience in an advanced practice nurse role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, SharePoint, Adobe and Peoplesoft.
  • Knowledge of office policies and procedures, and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with diverse individuals; proven ability to communicate professionally.
  • Works well independently, possesses the ability to take direction, work as a team player, and maintain confidentiality.
