An Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join the Gastroenterology team in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The APC will work collaboratively with gastroenterologists to provide high-quality care for patients with digestive disorders, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), liver disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and gastrointestinal cancers.

Requirements

• Clinical experience in gastroenterology, internal medicine, or hospital medicine preferred.
• 1-3 years of experience in gastroenterology or a related field (preferred but not required).
• Valid and unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the practicing state.
• Board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP), or Physician Assistant (PA-C).
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• DEA registration for prescribing medications (if required).
• Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program.

• Ability to appropriately function in the electronic medical records environment in both Cerner EMR (hospital) and Athena EMR (office practice).

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical history, physical examinations, and diagnostic assessments.
• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic gastrointestinal conditions such as IBD, GERD, celiac disease, and functional bowel disorders.
• Order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging studies, and diagnostic procedures (e.g., stool tests, liver function tests, endoscopy results).
• Develop and implement treatment plans, including medication management, lifestyle modifications, and dietary recommendations.
• Educate patients and families on gastrointestinal health, disease management, and preventive care.
• Assist in outpatient procedures such as capsule endoscopy placement, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube changes, and hemorrhoid banding.
• Monitor and manage patients on biologic therapies or other advanced treatments for GI conditions.
• Provide consultations and follow-up care for hospitalized patients with gastrointestinal conditions, including GI bleeding, pancreatitis, and liver disease.
• Assist with emergent GI cases, coordinating care with the hospital team and specialists.
• Perform bedside procedures as appropriate under physician supervision.
• Collaborate with gastroenterologists, hospitalists, and nursing staff to ensure continuity of care.
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to patient care planning.
