Position Details: Work Shift: Day Shift (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Department: Orthopedic Surgery Ability to see pediatrics/FNP required. Overview of Position: The surgical nurse practitioner will assist a surgeon in the global management of patient care in all peri-operative settings. The surgical nurse practitioner role will include providing diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical and preventative care under the supervision of a surgeon in one of the following specialties: General/Trauma Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Neurological Surgery, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery. The nurse practitioner will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting patient care, frequently advising patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or providing case management.

Requirements

  • APRN: EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited APRN training program.
  • Current Ohio RN and APRN licensure
  • Must have a current certificate of authority and certificate to prescribe (or eligible) by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Acute Care, Surgical, Critical Care, or Trauma Experience Preferred.
  • Preferred: APRNs requesting to be privileged as First Assists in peri-operative services will be required to complete an ANOR approved RNFA Certificate program and obtain a passing grade on the RNFA certification exam.
  • Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, ATLS (required for Trauma APP’s only) to be obtained within 6 months of hire

  • APRNs requesting to be privileged as First Assists in peri-operative services will be required to complete an ANOR approved RNFA Certificate program and obtain a passing grade on the RNFA certification exam.
  • Acute Care, Surgical, Critical Care, or Trauma Experience Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all manner of patient care in the office setting, as determined by the supervising surgeon. Specifically, but not exclusively, management of trauma patients, post-operative surgery patients, non-complex surgery consults.
  • First assistant in surgery – performs full first assist duties, including ensuring all needed equipment and supplies are present. Keep your surgical skills up to date with CME.
  • Respond to trauma activations and evaluate, manage trauma patients when relative.
  • Perform the assigned call duties when applicable—based on the specific surgical position.
  • Perform in-hospital surgery consultations.
  • Order and interpret laboratory studies and imaging.
  • Perform minor invasive procedures, central lines, intubations, chest tubes, etc.
  • Post-op – Writes orders in the recovery room, talks with family, visits patients, performs post-op procedures, and more.
  • Discharge planning – Dictates discharge summaries, writes prescriptions, explains discharge instructions, confirms follow-up appointments, and more.
  • Other duties as assigned.
