Performs high-risk obstetric ultrasounds working with Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists and fetal interventionalists including: first trimester ultrasounds, detailed first-trimester fetal anatomy assessment, comprehensive fetal anatomy assessments in the second and third trimesters, transvaginal ultrasounds to assess maternal and fetal anatomy, maternal and fetal doppler studies (including umbilical dopplers, middle cerebral artery dopplers, ductus spinosus), antenatal fetal surveillance, and 3D and 4D imaging. Ultrasounds on patients with high BMI in pregnancy, multifetal gestations, nuchal translucency, and cervical length assessments are within the scope of this sonographer. Assists Maternal Fetal Medicine physician/Fetal interventionalist in the performance of diagnostic and fetal intervention surgeries performed in the clinic and in the operating room, including CVS, amniocentesis, PUBS, laser surgery for TTTS, Fetal MMC repair, LUTO- stent placements, thoracentesis, and paracentesis. Supports inpatient OB patients and level 1 OB scans at an adjacent hospital, and performs ultrasound in the OR during fetal intervention surgeries (additional OR training and yearly competency sustainment is required). Training of physician learners and ultrasound students is expected.

Requirements

  • Requires 0-3 years of relevant experience.
  • 1-3 years of OB/GYN or MFM experience is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Active status through one of the following is required: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Obstetrics & Gynecology, RDMS (OB/GYN).
  • Requires completion of an accredited ultrasound training program.
  • May be required to meet registry/certification requirements for another modality, if applicable.
  • Requires the ability to maneuver equipment and improvise positions when the condition of the patient does not permit routine positioning.
