The Advanced EMT position at AMR Buffalo involves the transport and care of medically ill and traumatically injured patients in both emergency and non-emergency situations. The EMT-Advance is responsible for adhering to the standards of practice as published by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the American Heart Association. This role includes functioning competently as a driver and providing prompt and efficient care to patients, ensuring their stabilization prior to transport. The position also requires the EMT-Advance to manage emergency scenes, communicate with dispatch and hospitals, and maintain vehicle equipment and supplies.

  • Conducts a careful examination of the patient for signs and symptoms of illness/injury.
  • Provides prompt and efficient care of the patient and stabilization of condition prior to transport.
  • Handles the patient carefully while moving them to the ambulance vehicle.
  • Ensures safe and efficient transport of the patient while monitoring their condition.
  • Transfers the patient to the destination and cleans/restocks the unit afterward.
  • Controls the emergency scene in the absence of other qualified personnel.
  • Communicates with dispatch and other emergency services as needed.
  • Records information for the company and medical/legal authorities.
  • Checks vehicle equipment and systems daily.
  • Precepts new employees and students/observers as directed.
  • Must be currently State registered as EMT-Advance.
  • Must possess a current driver's license in the State where employed.
  • Currently licensed as EMS-Driver with DEMS in states where required.
  • Current adult and child CPR certification from AHA.
  • Must possess a current Class D driver's license, with F Endorsement.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to uphold standards of practice and education.
  • Good knowledge of common physical illnesses, symptoms, and medical terminology.
  • Maintains professional competence and demonstrates concern for the competence of other EMS team members.
  • Paid for books, uniforms, and tuition while getting Paramedic license.
  • Hourly wage while attending classes.
