The position involves driving an ambulance in response to emergency calls and providing both basic and advanced life support and emergency care to sick and injured individuals. The role requires determining the nature and extent of injuries and illnesses, assisting in lifting and transporting patients to appropriate medical facilities, and performing various medical procedures as permitted by certification. The EMT must maintain constant awareness of patient conditions, relay diagnostic signs to medical personnel, and report to emergency room personnel upon arrival. Additional responsibilities include assisting with rescue procedures, providing leadership to lower-level EMTs, and preparing run reports to document patient care and compliance with medical protocols. The EMT also participates in community events, inspects and maintains vehicles and equipment, and stocks supplies as needed.
