Candidates can be considered for any status (full time, part time, registry, team builder), shift, and location (Madison, Dyer, Benton, Chester). Responsible for basic emergency medical care in the transportation and treatment of sick and injured patients. Under the general supervision of the Director and the direct supervision of the Shift Manager, the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is responsible for emergency care of patients transported on assigned shifts, with flexible schedules. Completion of a certification course of study to allow applicant to sit for AEMT certification exam for the State of Tennessee required. Current Class D Tennessee Driver’s License. Current Basic Life Support card from American Heart Association or equivalent. Incumbents are subject to overtime and call back as required by the Director or designated person. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital. Employee is subject to random drug screening. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Determine the extent of illness or injury by performing patient assessment, recognize and interpret vital signs and other symptoms, report findings to an authorized Emergency Department/Trauma Center Registered Nurse and/or physician, and request orders for appropriate treatment protocol. Administer basic trauma and cardiac life support procedures to the sick and injured at the scene and en route to a hospital. Maintain basic clinical skills as required by defined Scope of Practice and/or departmental/organizational protocols and standards. Establishes radio communication with hospital Emergency Department/Trauma Center receiving the patient to advise them of the situation. Assists in extrication of victims from damaged motor vehicles and hostile environments. Record and enter patient data and other information on appropriate forms and logs. Perform duties as assigned in daily operation of quarters, involving patients, vehicles, department and equipment, following policies, procedures, and operating instructions. Report activities to the Shift Manager including unusual occurrences and complaints from patients, families, physicians, or employees. Assist with patient care duties in the Emergency Room/Trauma Center as requested or required for further training. Attends all required department education meetings. Participate in the clinical education of EMS students as needed. Contribute to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department and hospital, perform related responsibilities as required or directed and greet guest in accordance to our Guest Excellence principles. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
