About The Position

This position serves in support of the US Air Force life support contract for Wake Island located in the Pacific. The purpose of this position is to provide urgent care medical support to contracted and DOD personnel that are stationed on the Island. The Advanced EMT will utilize their knowledge and proficiency in evidenced-based medical practice and Intl.SOS protocols to manage unexpected and emergent situations and treat a variety of injuries and illnesses promptly and professionally. The Advanced EMT will serve as the first point of contact for patients being seen for their urgent care needs. The Advanced EMT will also be responsible for clinic upkeep and support the physician. She/ he will competently function as a member of the team to provide patient-based medical care on the project. Key Responsibilities include providing 24/7 response for emergencies that require medical support on the island, providing medical care outside of the clinic during emergencies at the level of care of an NREMT Advanced EMT scope of practice, receiving patients at the clinic during regular business hours (8 am - 4 pm), assisting medical providers with medical procedures and treatments as allowed within the licensed scope of work, assessment and documentation of the patient's vital signs, chief complaint, medical history, and prescribed medications, and reporting all changes in the patient's condition to the medical provider. The Advanced EMT will proactively and independently provide Advanced EMT-level care within the standing orders and SOPs without exceeding their licensed scope of care, assist patients with basic care and activities of daily living, and provide support and education to help patients make responsible health decisions. Additionally, the role involves maintaining clinic supply inventory, providing education on First aid/Emergency response, participating in training exercises, preparing patients for shipment to the USG in accordance with the contract, ensuring that medical equipment is within required calibration timelines, and assisting the physician with the coordination of medical evacuations as required.
