Responsible for the assessment and basic management of medical, trauma, and environmental emergencies under the supervision of on or off-line medical control. assists with patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice under the direct supervision of the EMS Coordinator. Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: In the field, the EMT responsibilities include: triage, CPR, oxygen therapy, shock prevention, splinting, spinal immobilization, and vehicular extrication. Ability to establish patient airway with oral or naso-pharyngeal airway. Able to ventilate a patient with a mask/ambu bag when necessary. Ability to suction oral secretions when necessary. Immobilizes extremities on trauma patients; applies direct pressure to control hemorrhaging. Notifies appropriate license personnel when the patient complains of pain. Performs and assists with technical skills as defined in the scope of practice. Adheres to Ambulance policies addressing standard precautions, safety regulations, and guidelines. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patients served. Able to interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age-specific needs and provide the care needed by the patient group. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Documents patient care performed, including vital signs, care, and observations. Transports patient and supplies safely. Maintains ambulance supplies and equipment. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations. Professional Requirements Ensures that appearance and personal conduct are professional at all times.
