About The Position

The primary function of this position is to perform in-depth and advanced repairs and troubleshooting on the mechanical and electrical aspects of electrical power generation. The technician must logically evaluate the job assigned to them in a timely and efficient manner, utilizing mathematical formulas as part of troubleshooting. A consistent productivity rate of 85% is expected, along with daily service report writing and time entry. The technician will monitor systems such as Modbus, Ethernet, and CAN Buss, and must possess above-average computer skills. They will also be on emergency call rotation for at least 7 days at a time, and must be accessible when needed, except during scheduled vacations or personal time off. The technician must comprehend the logic of Caterpillar UPS systems and obtain necessary training for the products. Effective communication with internal and external personnel and customers is essential, as is the ability to train end users on equipment operation. The technician must interpret and modify schematics and manuals for assigned jobs, adhere to safety policies, and be proficient in identifying system components. They will also need to modify or fabricate products to meet job-specific requirements and attend relevant training courses.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years direct experience with Automatic Transfer Switches.
  • UPS and Switchgear experience is very desirable.
  • For internal candidates, must be a GPEC EPG Master Technician performer for at least 1 year.
  • Must be able to routinely lift/position parts up to 137 pounds.
  • Possess or obtain related mechanical/electrical hand tools.
  • Must have cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have exposure to PC-based equipment and parts information.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license and a safe driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical college graduate in diesel or electrical technology can offset work experience by 2 years.
  • Familiarity with diesel and gasoline/LP gas engines.
  • In-depth understanding of lubrication, cooling, and fuel systems.
  • Experience with generator operations and applications.
  • Proficiency with various types of electronic test equipment.
