About The Position

The Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT) position requires specialized knowledge of cross-sectional human anatomy and its application in spiral and/or multi-slice computer tomography, including 3-D reconstruction scans. The technologist must have specific knowledge and training in the location, appearance, and function of various major and minor systems susceptible to radiological illumination.

Requirements

  • United States Citizenship.
  • Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program accredited by JRCERT or recognized by the Department of Education.
  • Certification in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology - Radiography (ARRT) (R).
  • Advanced ARRT certification required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT).
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

  • Independently operates Computed Tomography (CT) scanner and coordinates exams to optimize scanner times while maintaining flexibility for emergency cases.
  • Properly identifies patients by confirming patient name and social security number to prevent mistaken identity of patient images.
  • Explains exam procedures to patients to ensure understanding of what is to be done and any potential hazards.
  • Monitors patients' breathing and pulse, recognizes allergic reactions, and initiates cardiopulmonary resuscitation when necessary.
  • Assesses patients for contraindications for ordered procedures and completes Patient Assessment forms.
  • Confers with radiologists to determine appropriate protocols for non-standard exams and determines technical factors for CT scanning.
  • Prepares, labels, and administers contrast agents according to signed orders under the direction of a Radiologist or Licensed Independent Provider (LIP).
  • Maintains competency to insert IV catheters and use automated or manual injection techniques.
  • Possesses knowledge of the effects and adverse reactions of contrast materials and remains alert to patients' conditions.
  • Performs radiographic exams in the department and bedside under the direction of radiologists and other medical officers.
  • Maintains knowledge and capability of the PACS system to transfer images and data for radiologist interpretation.
  • Assists radiologists and other LIPs in fluoroscopic examinations and prepares contrast materials for various examinations.
