About The Position

Our FLANDERS Advanced Development team is adding a Lab Technician to its team! The Advanced Development Lab Technician supports the research and development of new technologies, materials, and products by conducting experiments, fabricating prototypes, testing components, and collecting technical data. This position works closely with engineers to validate tests, optimize processes, and transition innovative concepts into production-ready solutions.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in engineering technology, materials science, electronics, or a related field (or equivalent technical training/experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in a laboratory, R&D, or prototype development environment preferred
  • Proficient with laboratory instrumentation, test methods, and data acquisition systems
  • Skilled in mechanical assembly, electrical testing, and precision measurement
  • Familiarity with CAD drawings, engineering specifications, and technical documentation
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office and basic data analysis tools (Excel, Minitab, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting aptitude
  • Effective communication and teamwork
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced development environment
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with materials testing, prototype fabrication, or environmental testing is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, assemble, and test prototype components, subassemblies, and systems according to engineering specifications and test plans.
  • Set up and operate laboratory instruments, test fixtures, and measurement tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, power supplies, microscopes, tensile testers, thermal chambers, etc.).
  • Perform material preparation, machining, soldering, wiring, bonding, and other hands-on fabrication processes.
  • Locate parts needed according to engineering specifications and test plans.
  • Program firmware.
  • Conduct experimental trials, document observations, and maintain accurate test records and data logs.
  • Work with engineering and other leaders to support testing, collect data, perform statistical analysis, and report test results.
  • Assist engineers in root cause analysis and corrective action for test failures or product nonconformance.
  • Maintain lab equipment, ensure calibration and safe operation of tools and instruments.
  • Follow established safety, quality, and housekeeping procedures in all lab and pilot environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, and quality) to support new product introduction and process scale-up.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation in laboratory methods and documentation.
