The Advanced Data Storage Device Physics Group within the Seagate Research Group (SRG) is responsible for conducting research on advanced data storage and memory technologies through experimentation and physics-based simulation. The work performed by this team directly informs the Company's ten-year storage product roadmap. About the role - you will: Apply AI/ML methodologies to accelerate materials-related research and extract insights from experimental or simulation data. Collaborate with engineers from diverse disciplinary backgrounds. Develop state-of-the-art AI/ML and data science solutions to optimize analytical workflows for complex datasets. Conduct literature reviews and propose novel machine learning architectures. About you: Passionate about materials science and data science.   • Apply AI/ML methodologies to accelerate materials-related research and extract insights from experimental or simulation data.
  • Collaborate with engineers from diverse disciplinary backgrounds.
  • Develop state-of-the-art AI/ML and data science solutions to optimize analytical workflows for complex datasets.
  • Conduct literature reviews and propose novel machine learning architectures.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team.
  • Solid understanding of and practical experience with machine learning and deep learning methodologies, including but not limited to DNN, CNN, Transformer architectures, Reinforcement Learning, Active Learning, and GANs.
  • Background in materials science, chemistry, or data science, with practical experience in material metrology or chemical characterization techniques (e.g., Raman, XPS, XRF, GC-MS).
  • Pursuing a PhD degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Engineering, Electrical engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Math, or other related areas. Must be enrolled in Fall 2026 classes at a US university.
