Position Summary: Under the supervision of the physician—according to established practice guidelines and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards—provides inpatient management, consultation, and co-management of medical and surgical patients.

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioner MN or MSN or DNP or PhD or DNS degree in nursing.
  • Physician Assistant Graduate of accredited physician assistant program.
  • Nurse Practitioner APRN license in the state of Florida.
  • After July 1, 2006, licensure applicants are required to have national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board.
  • Maintains current BLS certification.
  • Physician Assistant Maintain current physician assistant licensure in State of Florida.
  • Maintain current BLS/healthcare certification.
  • 5 years as an Advance Practice Provider 2 years of speciality

Responsibilities

  • Manages patients using the highest degree of independence with minimal physician supervision in a highly specialized area across the continuum.
  • Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies, and recognizes deviations from the normal. From this, develops a diagnosis, and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to formulate and implement the treatment plan.
  • Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as credentialed, in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
  • Assists in teaching students, residents, and interns in complex techniques and procedures.
  • Implements appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessment, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, admission and discharge care in accordance with evidence-based medicine.
  • Initiates appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of patients.
  • Writes or dictates patient progress notes, discharge summaries, and clinical resumes that are concise throughout.
  • Prescribes medication.
  • Performs patient education and maintains provision of preventive health services.
  • Conducts or participates in multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Works with supervising physician to determine and place appropriate specialty consultations.
  • Participates in quality initiatives to ensure consistent attainment of key quality indicators.
  • Performs advanced cardiac life support. In medical emergencies, will act on behalf of the supervising medical staff member to maintain life support until a licensed physician arrives to manage the patient.
  • Triages patients.
  • Shares clinical expertise with professional and supportive personnel, and collaborates with other healthcare disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a role model and resource person for staff.
  • Participates in review and revision of policies and procedures.
  • Establishes relationships with professionals of other health-related groups within the community.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with diverse populations, including physicians, employees, patients, and families.
  • Participates in basic science and clinical research projects.
