Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice in the state of Ohio (and Kentucky, if job duties require)
  • (NP) Current RN and APRN licensure
  • (NP) RN First Assist Certification is a plus
  • (PA) Current PA licensure
  • Active authority/certificate to prescribe required
  • Clinical experience in an acute healthcare setting required; minimum years may vary by discipline, scope of practice, and procedural responsibilities
  • Certification: BLS/ACLS certification
  • Demonstrates excellent bedside manner with the ability to convey empathy and compassion to patients and families
  • Strong clinical judgment, problem-solving, problem-prevention, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage, prioritize, and adapt to multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Maintains composure under pressure and effectively restores calm in stressful or urgent situations
  • Uses sound judgment, professionalism, and diplomacy when interacting with patients, families, physicians, and staff
  • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex medical information
  • Desire and ability to work in a collaborative, team-based environment
  • Computer proficient, including electronic medical record (EMR) navigation and digital image review

Nice To Haves

  • Prior background in neurosurgery or critical care is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate post-operative and non-operative patients in the office setting; assess patient condition, establish and manage treatment plans, order diagnostic testing (e.g., X-ray), and dictate or document chart notes
  • Perform clinical rounds on inpatients and collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams to meet patient needs
  • Serve as First Assist in surgery when indicated, based on training, certification, and role requirements
  • Act as a liaison between physician and patient by communicating care instructions, relaying patient needs to the physician, and ensuring physician availability as appropriate (in person or by telephone)
  • Document all patient interactions promptly, accurately, and thoroughly in the electronic medical record, including phone calls, prescription changes, and care updates; maintain the internal organization and integrity of the medical record
  • Collaborate with appropriate personnel to coordinate outpatient testing and follow-up care
  • Perform administrative and clinical support duties as needed to support patient care and clinic operations
  • Maintain and enhance clinical competence and professional expertise through continuing education, professional organizations, workshops, and review of current literature
