The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is responsible for providing direct consumer care to assigned consumers within an urgent care setting. This position works under limited direction yet in coordination with an APP lead. Typical work scenarios require specialized knowledge, critical thinking, sound judgment based upon the principles of biological, physiological, behavioral, and sociological sciences skills, as well as strong customer service skills. Internal contacts include medical staff and management throughout the clinic and health system. External contacts include consumers, physicians, outside medical staff, and community resource services. The APP will perform and provide treatments for minor acute illness, consumer examinations, making initial assessments, initiating treatment, and referring to appropriate centers of care when applicable. They will determine abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results. The APP will also perform therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections. They will instruct and counsel consumers by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information and promoting wellness and health maintenance. Additionally, the APP will develop and implement consumer management plans, record progress notes, and assist in the provision of continuity of care. They may be required to supervise ancillary staff and prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions, referring consumers to specialists and relevant consumer care options as appropriate.
