About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is responsible for providing direct consumer care to assigned consumers within an urgent care setting. This position works under limited direction yet in coordination with an APP lead. Typical work scenarios require specialized knowledge, critical thinking, sound judgment based upon the principles of biological, physiological, behavioral, and sociological sciences skills, as well as strong customer service skills. Internal contacts include medical staff and management throughout the clinic and health system. External contacts include consumers, physicians, outside medical staff, and community resource services.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Physician Assistant accepted if graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program prior to January 2021.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program required.
  • 6 Months as an APP in an urgent care, or emergency department setting required or 1 Year Family practice or related field required.
  • Suturing experience strongly preferred.
  • RN - Registered Nurse with the state of Texas upon hire required.
  • NP - Nurse Practitioner with Texas Licensure and Certificate to practice as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the Texas State Board upon hire required.
  • National Certification or eligible for certification as Nurse Practitioner upon hire required.
  • PA - Physician Assistant with the state of Texas upon hire required.
  • Texas Licensure and Certificate to practice as a Physician Assistant issued by the Texas State Board upon hire required.
  • National Certification or eligible for certification as Physician Assistant upon hire required.
  • Valid Drug Enforcement Agency license upon hire required.
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support (through AHA or American Red Cross), maintained every 2 years required within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and provides treatments for minor acute illness, consumer examinations, making initial assessment, initiating treatment and referring to appropriate center of care when applicable.
  • Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections.
  • Instructs and counsels consumers by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information and promoting wellness and health maintenance.
  • Develops and implements consumer management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care.
  • May be required to supervise ancillary staff.
  • Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions and refers consumers to specialist and to relevant consumer care options as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates good organizational skills in coordinating services with co-workers and other departments/services.
  • Responds to stressful situations in a calm, rational manner and cooperates with all to facilitate integration of services.
  • Behaves in a professional and empathetic manner to build trust, comfort, understanding, and relationships with consumers and the secondary guest(s) and in-line with consumer and guest service standards.
