About The Position

The Advanced Highway Construction Pre Apprentice Instructor is a rewarding position focused on training and mentoring at-risk youth. This role involves instructing students in a regular classroom setting, promoting a positive atmosphere for maximum motivation and learning, and individualizing the curriculum to fit students' vocational choices. The instructor will also work collaboratively with various coordinators and counselors to implement programs and evaluate student progress.

Requirements

  • Certified, licensed, or accredited in the state where the center is located, or accredited by a professional trade organization.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record preferred.
  • Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.
  • Employment contingent upon successful completion of a nationwide criminal background check.
  • Knowledge of required subject area and ability to transfer knowledge to meet specific learning objectives fluently in English.
  • Ability to compose descriptive reports and implement programmatic activities using appropriate techniques.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students and effectively relate to the trainee population.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Career Technical Training Supervisor as a salaried, exempt position.
  • Instructs in a regular classroom setting, presenting instructions in designated subject area.
  • Promotes a positive atmosphere within the classroom to ensure maximum student motivation and learning.
  • Meets SMART Goals established by management every Program Year.
  • Instructs on the Advanced Highway Construction Pre Apprentice curriculum in accordance with Job Corps requirements.
  • Counsels and motivates students regarding behavior, training, personal and/or study habits and problems.
  • Individualizes curriculum to fit students’ vocational choices and maintains contact with vocational counselors and instructors.
  • Prepares reports such as student/staff hours, requisitions, and monthly student evaluations.
  • Works collaboratively with BCL-WBL Coordinator to implement the School to Career / Work-Based Learning Program and identify new Work Based Learning site partners.
  • Meets monthly with Career Counselors, BCL-WBL Coordinator, and trainees on their evaluations.
