About The Position

Love softball and want to get paid to be around the game? Join our team as an Adult Softball Umpire and earn extra income while enjoying Friday nights at the ballpark! Pay Rate: $24–$29 per game, depending on whether you are working alone or with a partner Earn up to $116 per night Schedule: Friday nights, April through October Games run between 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Each game lasts approximately 1 hour Location: Peruque Valley Park, located about two miles southwest of Wentzville Position Overview: Adult Softball Umpires officiate recreational softball games for adult players (ages 18+). This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy softball, working with adults, and being part of a fun, active environment. Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years old Interest in softball and willingness to learn officiating rules Ability to work evening hours on Fridays Comfortable working independently or with a partner Training: Training is provided by our Head Umpire — no prior umpiring experience required This is an independent contractor position and is not considered an employee of the City of Wentzville. Contractors will receive a 1099 for work performed and are not eligible to participate in the City of Wentzville's benefits programs. QualificationsEssential & Ancillary Job Duties

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Interest in softball and willingness to learn officiating rules
  • Ability to work evening hours on Fridays
  • Comfortable working independently or with a partner
  • One year playing or umpiring adult softball at any level desired
  • Ability to crouch, sprint, stand, or jog for extended periods during gameplay.
  • Ability to view violations and infractions accurately during gameplay.
  • Ability to communicate the rules clearly in a non-confrontational manner, and settle disputes among players as well as handle stressful situations that may arise with players or coaches.
  • Ability to quickly make decisions on infractions and other calls
  • Maintain strong character and unquestionable integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Officiate and control games, events, and competitions in a confident, appropriate manner.
  • Ensure all participants understand and comply with game rules and assess penalties when needed.
  • Make game calls with confidence and knowledge of league rules.
  • Keep track of event start times, and start or stop play as necessary.
  • Make sure the teams have the appropriate equipment and inspect both players and equipment for any issues
  • Arrive on time for contracted work.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to participants, coaches and spectators.
  • Assist with game setup and breakdown.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
