About The Position

Under the supervision of the Library Director and Assistant Director, the Adult Services Librarian performs essential reference functions while staffing service desks, plans, organizes, and conducts adult programs, participates in library outreach efforts, selects materials for purchase, catalogs materials, and supports the use of technology by patrons and staff.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science required, Master’s Degree from an American Library Association Accredited Institution strongly preferred.
  • Customer service experience with a commitment and passion for serving the community.
  • Proficient with computer applications with a technical aptitude for learning new programs.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas and information both in written and verbal form with library patrons, staff, and supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, flexible, and able to welcome new situations and environments.
  • Maintains confidentiality and uses appropriate judgment in handling information and records.

Nice To Haves

  • Has working knowledge of traditional and electronic resources and excellent online searching skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of computers, software, and electronic equipment.
  • Able to work independently, organize and prioritize work, and respond to changing work demands.
  • General understanding of library methods and procedures.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Proficient with computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of English grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical regulations and instructions.
  • Ability to calculate basic arithmetic problems (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).

Responsibilities

  • Serve at service desks to provide reference, reader’s advisory, and other patron assistive services.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct innovative adult library programs and services.
  • Support the Director and Assistant Director in adult programming development and scheduling.
  • Assist with training and mentorship of other staff to ensure that adult programs and services are planned, prepped, and presented in a manner reflecting the values of Kaukauna Public Library.
  • Participate in library outreach as a representative of the library and work with community groups and organizations on partner projects and events.
  • Order library materials for assigned collections and oversee the complete collection development cycle.
  • Assist with collecting library statistics.
  • Write and manage grant applications and projects.
  • Catalog and process materials as needed.
  • Work with patrons and staff on technology and the operation of library equipment.
  • Serve on additional committees or the Board as a representative of the library.
  • Attend applicable library system meetings and participate in conferences when budgeted.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Library Director or the Assistant Director.
