About The Position

Under general supervision, investigates complaints of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of adults in accordance with the ORC; protects adults' interests; coordinates efforts with county prosecutor's office and probate court; completes assessments, case plans, and summaries; mobilizes resources; provides advocacy and interpretation of legislation and due process; maintains case files. Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, or other related social science/behavioral science discipline.
  • Two (2) years social services experience, or equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of social work techniques, interviewing, department policies and procedures, adult services, case management, social services policies, programs, rules, and regulations, adult counseling, department goals and objectives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to travel to and gain access to work site.
  • Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, or regulations to specific situations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to compile and prepare reports.
  • Ability to calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to maintain records according to established procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates complaints of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of eligible adults.
  • Conducts home visits in regular and emergency situations.
  • Coordinates protective orders with courts.
  • Consults with necessary persons for client assessments and recommendations.
  • Informs client of legal rights.
  • Establishes need for involuntary intervention (guardianship, emergency or routine protective orders, restraining orders, etc.).
  • Testifies at hearings (e.g., guardianship, criminal, civil, etc.).
  • Maintains and monitors ongoing caseload.
  • Provides intensive counseling to clients (e.g., individual or group basis).
  • Counsels significant others (e.g., family and friends, etc.).
  • Establishes and maintains case records and data.
  • Completes case plans and investigative summaries.
  • Attends staff meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
