Aging and People with Disabilities (APD), part of the Oregon Department of Human Services, is seeking a compassionate individual for an Adult Protective Service Investigator position in our Hillsboro office. Summary of duties: This position receives, screens and investigates reports concerning abuse, neglect and exploitation committed against older adults and adults with physical disabilities. Investigations occur in community-based long term care facilities and the community at large. Investigators will also provide plans of safety and prevention to mitigate current and/or future incidents of abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Investigators make referrals and/or work with community partners as components of Adult Protective Services.

  • Investigations occur in community-based long term care facilities and the community at large.
  • provide plans of safety and prevention to mitigate current and/or future incidents of abuse, neglect, or exploitation
  • make referrals and/or work with community partners as components of Adult Protective Services.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in the human, social, behavioral or criminal sciences and two years human service, law enforcement or investigative experience; OR An Associate's Degree in the human, social, behavioral or criminal sciences and four years human service, law enforcement or investigative experience.
  • Three years professional level experience related to the position may substitute for the Bachelor's degree; 18 months for an Associates.
  • Experience working in investigations (i.e. civil, legal, criminal or abuse/neglect).
  • Experience interviewing people to gather and verify information related to abuse, neglect and/or self-neglect.
  • Experience with navigating multiple windows-based software applications including Microsoft applications and inputting data into those systems.
  • Experience with written documentation and an ability to write detailed, analytical, concise reports
  • Must be able to drive and meet with individuals in their homes, community settings, community based long term care facilities, or other care settings.
  • A valid driver’s license is required and an acceptable driving record.
  • Within three days of hire, you will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States.
