About The Position

The Adult Probation Officer Supervisor plans, organizes, coordinates, trains and supervises the activities of assigned Probation Officers that are engaged in interviewing, advising, counseling and supervising adult offenders. The Adult Probation Officer Supervisor is committed to assisting the Adult Probation Department in fulfilling its mission to continually improved the quality of community life by offering hope to neighborhoods, victims and offenders. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an academically accredited college or university
  • Four (4) years of experience as an Adult Probation Officer with the Maricopa County Adult Probation Department
  • Successfully complete eight (8) hours of defensive tactics refresher training on an annual basis and maintain certificate of successful completion of defensive tactics training.
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License and the ability to maintain a Vehicle Use Permit
  • Knowledge of: The Criminal Justice System
  • The principles of evidence-based practices and methodologies
  • Skill in: Service orientation by actively looking for a means to assist internal and external customers.
  • Personnel resources management through motivating, developing and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.
  • Applying deductive and inductive reasoning to information and facts about situations to reach logical conclusions from the reasoning process.
  • Demonstrating professional behavior and ethical standards of conduct.
  • Operating computer equipment and using software programs to complete required paperwork, reports, email correspondence, conduct research on the Internet and perform other administrative tasks.
  • Ability to: Use effective time management skills to handle multiple tasks at one time with numerous interruptions.
  • Adjust to changing circumstances, remain flexible when staffing conflict occurs, take on other roles when short-staffed, and adapt to changing priorities as the situation requires.
  • Process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Effectively plan, assign work, train and supervise others.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a unit of officers and/or Adult Probation staff. This includes conducting annual evaluations, training of staff, management of unit caseloads and staff timekeeping & teleworking.
  • Performs all of the duties of a Probation Officer when the need arises
  • Responds to inquiries, complaints, and public relations issues
  • Conducts meetings and makes presentations
  • Assists with new staff interviews and background checks
  • Conducts caseload reviews and evaluations
  • Observes and addresses staff performance.
  • Assists with personnel actions
  • Assists in making arrests and executing probation violation warrants
  • Generates memos, reports and any additional required paperwork
  • Assisting staff in meeting training requirements
