About The Position

The Adult Probation Officer I is responsible for a combination of law enforcement and social service work supervising and guiding adult offenders on probation and parole while protecting the community. A position in this class provides legal accountability through enforcement, intervention and redirection as required/needed. Work includes investigating backgrounds; gathering information from victims and witnesses; determining assistance needed by the offender; and preparing a treatment/supervision plan for each offender.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Complete presentence investigations by gathering information through interviews with defendants, victims, families, employers, police departments, etc.
  • Conduct field, office, phone and video contacts with individuals on supervision.
  • Refer individuals on supervision to the appropriate programs/services/interventions, sets goals and assesses progress.
  • Utilize an assessment tool to develop treatment/supervision plans.
  • Maintain organized, comprehensive and accurate case notes.
  • Attend and testify in revocation/violation and other court hearings in order to make recommendations and provide input pertaining to an individual's supervision.
  • Serve warrants, make arrests, assist on transports, conduct searches and confiscate controlled substances and contraband.
  • Perform urinalysis and breathalyzer testing as needed.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Work collaboratively and maintain written and verbal contact with service providers, attorneys and collateral contacts.
  • Participate in committees and enhance community partnerships.
  • Attend seminars, meetings and conferences to expand knowledge and expertise in the field.
  • Answer inquiries from the public, and other Court and County offices regarding policies and procedures of the department.
  • Perform other related work as required.
