About The Position

As an Adult Parole and Probation Officer, you will manage felony parole and probation correctional cases. Your role involves assessing the needs of individuals on parole or probation, identifying services to support their rehabilitation and readjustment into society, and monitoring their behavior to ensure compliance with their case plan. You will also be responsible for investigating and taking appropriate action to address supervision violations as needed. This recruitment aims to establish a list of qualified applicants for future vacancies. This position is represented by the Federation of Oregon Parole and Probation Officers.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree; AND two (2) years of experience working in a Criminal Justice setting; or two (2) years in a social service, counseling, or case management program with primary responsibility for guiding or counseling individuals in the solution of occupational, educational, personal or social problems
  • OR Successful completion of two (2) academic years (90 quarter hours or the equivalent) from an accredited college or university; AND three (3) years of experience working in a Criminal Justice setting; OR three (3) years in a social service, counseling or case management program with primary responsibility for guiding or counseling individuals in the solution of occupational, educational, personal or social problems
  • Receive certification by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training in Basic Probation and Parole within eighteen months of hire
  • Maintain an appropriate Oregon State driver license to drive a vehicle in usual and emergency situations
  • Required to carry a firearm and must obtain and maintain a qualifying score with their agency assigned firearm
  • Meet DPSST Physical Standards
  • Satisfactorily complete an ODOC background investigation OAR 259-008-0015
  • Have a history of law-abiding behavior OAR 259-008-0070
  • Pass a psychological evaluation and risk assessment as required by HB 2936
  • Subject to testing for the use of prohibited drugs
  • Pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility
  • Complete an I-9 and confirm authorization to work in the United States within three days of hire
  • A valid driver's license with a good driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with performing assessments, case planning, and/or behavior change plans for those on parole and probation
  • Prior professional experience with testifying in court or writing reports
  • Prior field work as it relates to case management
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification on the Law Enforcement Data (LEDS)
  • Parole and Probation Officer intermediate certification from Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (receives an additional 3%)
  • Parole and Probation Officer advanced certificate from Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (receives an additional 6%)
  • Experience and education related to community corrections, criminal justice, or law enforcement
