About The Position

The Adult ESL Coach at World Relief is responsible for supporting newly arrived refugees in accessing asynchronous English lessons through a digital platform. This role involves assessing client English levels, monitoring student progress, assisting with goal setting, and providing guidance on digital literacy to enhance learning outcomes. The position aims to empower refugees by fostering a supportive learning environment and facilitating their transition to permanent English classes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, TESOL, TEFEL, Linguistics, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience teaching English or English as a Second Language, or coaching, particularly with adult learners or refugee populations.
  • Strong understanding of digital learning platforms and tools.
  • Experience using data to track student progress.
  • Excellent communication skills and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in digital literacy training.
  • Experience with asynchronous learning.
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Arabic, Kinyarwanda, Dari, Farsi, or Haitian Creole.
  • Experience working with cross-cultural populations.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and understanding of the refugee experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one coaching sessions to help refugees navigate the digital platform and access English language resources.
  • Assist clients in setting realistic, achievable language acquisition goals and tracking their progress.
  • Regularly assess and monitor learners' engagement and progress through the digital platform.
  • Offer constructive feedback and recommendations to help students improve their language skills.
  • Conduct workshops and individual sessions on digital literacy, focusing on using the platform effectively, online safety, and resource navigation.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages learners to practice English in a safe space.
  • Plan and facilitate peer-to-peer interactions and group discussions to enhance communication skills.
  • Work with other staff to identify specific needs of clients and ensure all clients are empowered to access a full range of services as needed.
  • Aid clients in transitioning to permanent English classes through referral and collaboration with adult ESL service providers.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and feedback, reporting to the Program Coordinator as required.
  • Stay current with best practices in adult ESL education, digital learning, and refugee support services.
