About The Position

The Adult Education Lead serves as the educational leader of the Adult Learning Program, working closely with the Adult Learning Program Director to strengthen instructional quality, tutor support, and learner outcomes. This role is highly collaborative and hands-on, with frequent interaction with adult learners, volunteer tutors, and community partners. The Adult Education Lead ensures tutors feel confident and supported, learners progress at an appropriate pace toward their goals, and culturally responsive, learner-centered practices are embedded throughout the program. As part of a small, mission-driven team, you will help the Adult Learning Program grow and evolve while maintaining the warmth, flexibility, and dignity that define adult education at LMS.

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a concentration in education or literacy
  • Experience teaching; adult education or literacy instruction experience preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs and sit or stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Support and collaborate with Adult Basic Education (ABE) volunteer tutors on short- and long-term instructional planning
  • Maintain regular communication with tutors and adult learners to promote retention, progress, and positive learning experiences
  • Provide guidance and scaffolding for tutor lesson plans to support differentiated instruction for learners with diverse needs and goals
  • Match tutors and learners based on goals, schedules, learning needs, and overall fit; monitor and adjust pairings as needed
  • Integrate culturally responsive and learner-centered practices into ALP materials, trainings, and tutoring supports
  • Facilitate new volunteer onboarding and ongoing tutor training sessions, including opportunities for continued learning and skill-building
  • Contribute to learner assessment, goal-setting, and progress monitoring to inform instructional support
  • Document and maintain program processes, tools, and resources to ensure consistent access for staff and volunteers
  • Collaborate with LMS staff and community partners to support program development, outreach, and new education initiatives
  • Train partner organizations on embedding literacy practices into existing training programs
