About The Position

The College and Career Navigator reports to the Director of Adult Education and serves as the liaison between services provided by AE and post-secondary options available through college academics and training and/or community organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, social work, education, or related field.
  • Experience in working with non-traditional students and/or at-risk populations (e.g. adult basic education, academically under-prepared high school graduates, foster youth, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients, youth and young adults, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit students for the AE and MIBEST programs, including development of recruitment, marketing and outreach materials.
  • Establish positive and trusting relationships with students.
  • Coordinate and manage student registration, orientation, assessments, and placement.
  • Connect students with academic advising, including setting career and academic goals.
  • Develop an educational plan to identify student assets, barriers, and support services needed to address challenges.
  • Coordinate and/or provide supportive services that lead to academic persistence and success using internal college and external community resources.
  • Connect interested students to the college admission processes.
  • Identify and assist students with potential sources of financial support, including financial aid.
  • Monitor student attendance, behavior, and academic progress and meet with students regularly regarding these program requirements.
  • Foster student accountability, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and effective use of resources.
  • Collaborate with regional workforce development systems, local businesses, and other community organizations to facilitate employment search, internship, and/or job placement opportunities for students.
  • Collect, input, manage, and update student data in the Literacy, Adult and Community Education System (LACES) in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Review and utilize program data on retention, progression, and completion to support continuous program improvement.
  • Attend all required state AE or related conferences, trainings, and meetings.
  • Maintain regular communication with college Career and Technical Education/Workforce Education faculty regarding student performance and provide supportive services for student success by connecting with external community resources.
  • Assist with organizing AE and MIBEST Week activities.
  • Maintain complete and accurate student and program files.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
