About The Position

This position is an on-campus, full-time, 12-month, grant-funded appointment based in Champaign, Illinois covered by the Professional Support Staff (PSS) Union with an annual salary of $52,436.80. The Adult Education Advisor is responsible for overseeing the intake and assessment process and place students in appropriate classes. Advisors work with the Associate Director to establish and implement recruitment and retention strategies for individuals pursuing their High School Equivalency, out-of-school youth, and English Language Learners. This position is responsible for assisting students in overcoming personal and social barriers as they work towards career and educational goals. The Advisor is a full-time, 12-month, grant-funded, Professional Support Staff appointment on a schedule established by the Associate Director. Some evening hours are required. This position is contingent on the successful renewal of grant funds. The position involves exposure to confidential information and records. The Advisor must be able to work independently, collaboratively, and accurately to prioritize tasks and responsibilities. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a related field and two (2) years of experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three (3) years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting adult learners and varied non-traditional student populations.
  • Experience working with adult learners and non-traditional students.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment criminal background check with fingerprinting, including review of exclusionary offenses under the Illinois School Code and Title IV of the Higher Education Act.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present to both large and small groups, actively listen and respond accordingly.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software with the ability to learn the Parkland information system and adapt to new programs as technology progresses.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, orient, and register new students.
  • Proctor standardized testing and enroll in appropriate courses.
  • Provide retention and follow-up of current and former Adult Education students, including students who have transitioned to other Workforce Development Division programs.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies to provide support services as needed for identified students: career assessment, mentoring, advising, and linkages to other resources.
  • Conduct student support programming, workshops, and events that is inclusive of all Workforce Development Division programs.
  • Assist with tracking and reporting of student progress toward goal completion and highlighting student success stories.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records.
  • Other duties as assigned.
