This opening is for an Adoptions Counselor/Animal Care Provider to serve as a part of our team at Furry Friends Refuge, a no-kill organization located in West Des Moines, IA. The position is designed for individuals who are passionate about animal welfare and are eager to contribute to our mission of building a no-kill community. The work environment is fast-paced, requiring team members to be adaptable and efficient in their roles. The position will involve working afternoons and evenings, with one weekend day required, and shifts typically range from 8 to 10 hours. Employees will enjoy a 4-day work week with consistent shifts each week, allowing for a balanced work-life schedule. The primary focus of this role will be to counsel potential adopters, process adoptions, and provide advice and assistance in matching people with pets. This includes working closely with pet owners and animal control officers during animal intakes. Additionally, the Adoptions Counselor will assist volunteers in providing care and cleaning for the animals at the shelter, as well as performing evening care duties, which include administering medications and letting dogs out at the end of the evening. Other duties may be assigned as needed, requiring flexibility and a willingness to take on various tasks. Candidates must possess a strong attention to detail, a positive can-do attitude, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment. Strong multitasking skills and excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are essential for success in this role. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with technology, able to stand and walk for long periods, and capable of lifting at least 50 lbs. All team members must be passionate about our mission, love animals, and have an internal drive to learn and communicate effectively with team members for the benefit of the animals in our care.
