About The Position

Join Affiliated Oncologists as an Admixture Tech Sr.! AO specializes in treating a variety of cancers including lymphoma lung, breast, prostate, gynecologic, colorectal and head and neck cancers. Our physicians and staff are a multi-disciplinary team of highly experienced caregivers focused on helping patients and their families receive the best care and support possible. Under direct supervision of a physician working within a clinic admixture room, performs the technical, nonjudgemental aspects of medication preparation. With minimal supervision, responsible for record keeping and inventory control. Tasks are subject to sequential or final verification by a pharmacist. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Specific state law may regulate that only licensed individuals perform compounding or mixing responsibilities. As a result, certain incumbents are prohibited from said tasks.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum five years' experience in a pharmacy with strong sterile compounding skills, strongly preferred.
  • Oncology or specialty experience with strong sterile compounding skill, strongly preferred.
  • Sterile Compounding Technician certification strongly preferred.
  • Licensed pharmacy technician per state law required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification required.
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited program or community college based program recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medication orders by compounding and admixing medications under supervision of a physician and licensed pharmacist.
  • Checks all orders for completeness of information.
  • Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
  • Verifies insurance approval for all orders before admixing.
  • Admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines.
  • Prepares all drugs within United States Pharmacopeia (USP) standards, OSHA guidelines, and practice policies and procedures.
  • Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
  • Demonstrates exceptional competency in drug calculations.
  • Responsible for adhering to state and federal laws concerning controlled substances.
  • Complies with all medication requirements per DEA, FDA, IDFPR, IDPH, and USP regulations.
  • Properly disposes all materials used when mixing hazardous or non-hazardous dosage forms.
  • Completes required tasks including maintenance of USP standards daily.
  • Logs and dates all drugs that are being used via automated medication dispensing system (Lynx).
  • Maintains and verifies daily inventory, temperature monitoring logs, and facility conditions in accordance with applicable USP regulations.
  • Collaborates with Clinical Research Coordinator to maintain accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
  • Maintains proper control documentation of medications, including lot numbers/expiration dates and other quality assurance tasks.
  • Complete inventory control of medications.
  • Orders necessary supplies and medications to complete the daily tasks of medication preparation.
  • Receives and shelves medications.
  • Thorough understanding of department automation, data entry, and report generation.
  • Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and the pharmacy department in general.
  • Supports entry level certified pharmacy technicians, takes initiative, and assists team processes as applicable.
