About The Position

The Admixture Pharmacy Technician is responsible for executing all processes in the production of compounded sterile preparations while strictly adhering to USP <797>, USP <800>, and department standard operating procedures. This position will compound sterile medications, including chemotherapeutic agents, under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or physician. The compounding technician is also responsible for managing patient records, inventory of medications and supplies, and maintaining a clean and highly organized clean room.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years of experience
  • One year of compounding and/or aseptic processing experience
  • Illinois pharmacy technician licensure, current and in good standing
  • Pharmacy technician certification
  • Illinois State Board of Pharmacy
  • Knowledge of USP <795>, <797>, and <800>

Nice To Haves

  • Hazardous medication compounding/handling experience (preferred)
  • Previous work experience with EPIC, Nucleus, Pyxis systems (preferred)
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assists in preparation and compounding of hazardous and non-hazardous sterile products under the supervision of a pharmacist or physician
  • Maintain the pharmacy cleanroom suite to USP <797> and USP <800> standards.
  • Utilize aseptic technique when performing tasks within the clean room.
  • Documentation of IV admixture preparations and applicable cleanroom suite monitors and sterility tests.
  • Preparation and packaging of compounded products for delivery.
  • Ensure cleaning and garbing is performed per USP and department standards
  • Maintain an ISO classified environment through rigorous cleaning and disinfecting of the work space and components.
  • Maintain proper preparation of sterile, nonhazardous drug compounding through knowledge of effective hand hygiene and garbing procedures
  • Maintain inventory management and administrative tasks
  • Complete appropriate documentation, such as labels, log sheets and reports.
  • Monitor inventory levels and alert appropriate designee of additional drug and supply needs.
  • Routinely check for outdated or soon to expire pharmaceutical products.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to ensure department and patient needs are met.
